Argentine Model 1909 Mauser Bayonet and Scabbard by Weyersberg Kirschbaum and Company - This Argentine Model 1909 Mauser bayonet and scabbard were manufactured by Weyersberg Kirschbaum and Company in Solingen, Germany. This pattern was commissioned by the Argentine government to accompany the 1909 Mauser rifle and represents a classic example of German export-contract edged weaponry. The bayonet features a long, single-edged bright steel blade with a deep fuller and a spear point. The hilt is constructed with a steel hooked quillon crossguard and a bird's-head pommel featuring a slotted attachment mechanism with a functioning locking button. The grip scales are made of dark polished wood and are secured to the tang by two steel rivets. The obverse ricasso is stamped with an intact Argentine national crest featuring a wreathed shield surmounted by a rising sun, positioned below the arc MODELO ARGENTINO 1909 and the serial number N7078. The reverse ricasso bears the maker stamp WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM and CO SOLINGEN. Small inspection and proof marks are present on the crossguard and the steel scabbard. The scabbard includes a round frog stud and is marked with serial number D3465. Overall length (bayonet): 20 5/8 inches Blade length: 15 3/4 inches Scabbard length: 16 1/2 inches.
