Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Armor Bronze
A Pair of Armor Bronze Co. Polychrome Bronze-Clad Chinese Student Bookends - A pair of vintage polychrome bronze-clad bookends produced by the Armor Bronze Company, dated 1939. The design features two young boys in traditional Chinese attire; one figure is seated reading a book, while the other is kneeling and peering over the vertical support. These figures are set against backplates and bases styled to resemble stacked books. The bookends are manufactured using a bronze-clad or electroformed process over a non-metallic core. The exterior is finished in a gold-toned bronze with hand-painted red, blue, green, and black accents. The rear base edge of both pieces is inscribed with the copyright mark, the year 1939, and the manufacturer name Armor Bronze Co. The underside of one bookend features a gold foil shield-shaped label reading Armor Bronze Co. Taunton, Mass. and Armor Bronze U.S.A. Goods of Merit by Master Craftsmen. The second bookend has a green felt base but is missing its label. Base Depth: 4.5 inches Height: 6 inches. In-house shipping is available.
