A Pair of Chinese Hardwood and Inlaid Zodiac Divination Plaques - A pair of Chinese circular hardwood plaques featuring intricate inlays with fine ink-filled engravings. The set consists of two complementary components belonging to a traditional geomantic divination tool. One plaque is decorated with twelve circular vignettes around the perimeter, each portraying one of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The central panel depicts a pastoral scene of a figure riding an ox under a pine tree. The second plaque features a central luopan or geomancer's compass design. The central ring contains the Eight Trigrams (Ba Gua) surrounding a recessed pivot point. Subsequent rings are engraved with the Twelve Earthly Branches, Ten Heavenly Stems, and directional markers including East, South, West, and North. The outer border is composed of a continuous figurative landscape illustrating various scenes of rural life, farming, and travel. Diameter: 5 inches (12.7 cm). In-house shipping is available. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
