Tashiro Shoten Japanese Satsuma Moriage Lidded Ice Bucket - Produced by Tashiro Shoten (Tashiro Trading Company) in Nagoya, this lidded vessel is an example of early 20th-century Japanese export earthenware. The piece is decorated in the Satsuma style featuring heavy moriage (raised enamel) and gilding on a cream-colored ground with fine crazing. The central figure is a Rakan or Buddhist deity surrounded by a gilded halo, with secondary motifs including stylized scales, landscapes, and cloud patterns in blue, orange, and green. The vessel features two gilded shishi (lion-dog) handles and a matching shishi finial on the lid. The base bears a circular red backstamp with a diamond emblem containing a T over a Y, encircled by the text HANDPAINTED MADE IN JAPAN. Lid Diameter: 5.5 inches Body Diameter: 5 inches.
