A Pair of Chinese Polychrome Porcelain Fertility Vases - A pair of polychrome porcelain vases featuring a vibrant pink ground decorated with hand-painted overglaze enamels. The decorative program includes floral sprays, butterflies, and peaches. Each vessel is embellished with several high-relief molded figures of boys in colorful robes climbing the body of the vase, a motif traditionally associated with fertility and a hundred boys. A large, molded green ribbon is tied in a bow around the neck of each vase. The flared rims are finished with a thin gilt band. The underside of each base bears a red printed mark in three lines: PORCELAIN MADE / IN CHINA HAND / PAINTED IN MACAU. A small triangular mark containing the letters BC is also present, with an additional BC printed below. These marks indicate a mid-to-late 20th-century origin for the Macau export market. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
