Reproduction Cast Iron Black Americana Banjo Player Mantel Clock - This reproduction figural mantel clock is constructed of polychrome painted cast iron and depicts a caricatured Black male figure playing a banjo. The figure is modeled in a standing position, dressed in a yellowish-cream shirt, an orange vest, and green trousers, topped with a wide-brimmed flat hat. The clock dial is inset into the torso of the figure and features a white outer ring with black Arabic numerals 1 through 12. The center of the dial has a gold-tone sunburst finish and is equipped with ornate black hour and minute hands and a red sweep second hand. The dial is printed with the word QUARTZ at the six o clock position. The body is cast in two vertical halves with prominent seams visible along the sides and is mounted to a rectangular cast iron base. Modern Phillips-head screws on the underside secure the figure to the base. The clock utilizes a modern quartz battery-operated movement. 11.25 inches in height.
