Two Patchwork Quilts Including a Crazy Quilt Embroidered L. H. Ellis and a Coordinating Strip Quilt - This lot features two handmade textile pieces consisting of a large crazy quilt and a smaller rectangular strip-patchwork quilt. The large quilt is composed of various irregularly shaped patches of plush velvet, floral tapestry weave, damask, and metallic-toned brocades. The patches are joined with gold-colored decorative embroidery in a feather stitch pattern. One tan velvet patch is hand-embroidered with the name L. H. ELLIS. The quilt is finished with a yellow cotton backing featuring a multi-colored floral print within a black trellis design; the fabric is marked with a repeated stamp reading GUARANTEED SUNFAST AND TUB-PROOF. The second item is a strip quilt or lap throw constructed from vertical bands of similar luxury fabrics including velvets and brocades. It is finished with a blue striped cotton backing and a contrasting pink fabric border. 92 x 70 inches 87 x 36 inches.
