American School, 20th Century 'Peacocks in an Architectural Setting' - This oil or watercolor on paper painting depicts a pair of peacocks amidst flowering branches with pink blossoms. The primary bird is rendered with an elongated tail featuring blue and yellow eye spots, set against a stylized background of ochre and yellow with architectural scroll motifs. The work is housed in a large, ornate white-finished composition frame featuring deep foliate and scrollwork relief and a gilded inner liner. A metallic picture light is attached to the top rail of the frame. The verso reveals the canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher. 27 x 31 inches.
