McLoughlin Bros. Electro-Grain Gravure Print An Interrupted Proposal dated 1903 - This electro-grain gravure print, titled An Interrupted Proposal, was published by McLoughlin Bros. in 1903. The image depicts a romanticized Edwardian garden scene where a young man in a dark velvet coat is shown leaning toward a woman seated on a rustic, gnarled wood chair or bench. She is dressed in an iridescent light blue gown. Their interaction is interrupted by a young girl entering from the right side of the composition, wearing a voluminous pink dress and a large plumed hat, and holding a small bird. The setting is a paved terrace with a checkered tile floor and potted citrus trees, with a classical estate visible in the distance beyond a formal iron gate. The print is housed in an ornate composite frame featuring heavy gilded gesso floral and foliate decorative moldings over a stained wood base. The reverse is finished with a simple wooden board backing secured by nails and a metal hanging wire. Printed text along the bottom edge reads: ELECTRO-GRAIN GRAVURE at the bottom left; 1572 AN INTERRUPTED PROPOSAL at the bottom center; and COPYRIGHT 1903 BY McLOUGHLIN B at the bottom right.
