Bidspirit auction | Antique Lenkoran Kazak Wool Runner

Antique Lenkoran Kazak Wool Runner Rug - An antique Lenkoran Kazak tribal runner rug, hand-knotted with a wool pile on a wool warp and weft foundation. The design features a classic three-medallion layout set against a dark brown field. Each large primary medallion is composed of multi-layered octagons with characteristic latch-hook perimeters. The central medallion contains a yellow star-form motif, while the flanking medallions are decorated with geometric and cruciform fillers. The surrounding field includes sparsely placed stylized geometric motifs and pillar forms. The rug is enclosed by a multi-banded border, with the primary band featuring a repeating star-in-square floral motif on a madder red ground. The color palette utilizes natural dyes, including indigo blue, madder red, ivory, ochre yellow, and naturally dark undyed brown. Prominent horizontal color variations, known as abrash, are visible throughout the blue and red sections of the weaving.
