A China War 1842 Medal, named to: William Malyon HMS 'Druid'. William Malyon was born at Torpoint, Cornwall on 3 June 1818. He joined the Royal Navy on 1 June 1834 and served on HMS 'Wolf' and then HMS 'Druid' from 1839 -1843 and received the China War Medal for his service in the First China War in 1841. He re-enlisted for Continuous Service in the Royal Navy in 1854 and served until 1872, being awarded the RN LS&GC medal in 1851 and reaching the rate of Superior Petty Officer. In later life he is recorded in the 1881 census as a Navy pensioner living at Portsmouth with his wife and four children. HMS 'Druid' was a 46 gun frigate, launched in 1825 With copy of CS service record and extract from medal roll for the China Medal. The medal retains its original German silver suspender. Good Very Fine (GVF) condition.
