A Japanese Sword Awarded to Samurai Kendo Champion. A fine katana, awarded to a samurai kendo champion, made by swordsmith Hosokawa Yoshinori in 1866 and awarded to Minamoto Yoshinori. The blade, in full polish with oshigata reading: 'Made by Hosokawa Yoshinori, residing in Shimotsuke, at the foot of mount Kurokami on a day in February 1866. A clear mind sword awarded to Minamoto Yoshinori by Fukuda san' Richly mounted with fuchi-kashira signed Sukeyuki in shakudo detailed with silver and gold inlay. The saya bearing a silver family mon. The hilt bound in black silk “battle wrap” with gold or gilt oxen menuki. Complete with brocade bag.
