A Khedive’s Sudan Medal 1910, second type, in silver, un-named as issued, with two clasps: ‘Lau Nuer’ and ‘Atwot 1918’. The Lau Nuer clasp Was awarded for a punitive patrol by Sudanese infantry under the command of Major E A T Bayly DSO RWF, for operations against Lau Nuer during the period March, April and May 1917. The Atwot 1918 clasp was awarded for an expedition against Malwal Matiang (aka Atwot Dinkas) during the period January – May 1918. The patrol consisted of four companies of infantry and one company of mounted infantry, with two machine guns. This medal was almost certainly awarded to a member of a Sudanese infantry battalion With ‘bazaar’ rivets between the 1st and 2nd clasps, as is usual with this medal, and the original silk (slightly distressed) ribbon.
