Highland Girl by Nguyen Huyen, 58 x 38 cm, Color ink on silk. Signed in the upper right. Nguyen Huyen (1915–1994) was a Vietnamese artist from Bac Ninh who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine (1932–1936) and became one of the founding members of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. He is historically notable for painting a portrait of President Hồ Chí Minh in 1945 and for designing the back of the famous ”blue buffalo” 100-đồng banknote in 1946, and is especially renowned for his lacquer paintings from the 1940s onwards.
