Le Dinh Quy is a Vietnamese sculptor and painter from Thanh Hoa, affectionately known as ”the Prodigy of the Thanh region” (Quai kiet xu Thanh). In 1966 he graduated top of his class in sculpture from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, and later trained in Ukraine under the Soviet sculptor Makagon; he is also renowned as an amateur astronomer who published a hypothesis on the origin of the solar system. His works range from monumental war memorials along the Ho Chi Minh Trail to hundreds of paintings spanning classical, surreal, cubist, and abstract styles.
