Life by Be Ky, 85x47 cm, Ink on paper. Be Ky (1938–2021) was a self-taught Vietnamese artist celebrated for her spontaneous ink paintings - often called ”cro-ky” (a pun on the French ”croquis”) - depicting Vietnamese street life, rural scenes, mothers and children, and traditional folk activities. Orphaned during wartime, she rose to international fame while still a teenager sketching on the streets of Saigon, held 16 exhibitions there between 1957 and 1975, and later emigrated to California where she continued to work.
