Created by top photojournalists and officials over more than a year, it was distributed only to political elites, foreign dignitaries, and key libraries. Published to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic on October 1, 1959, the book highlights a decade of achievements by the Communist Party in agriculture, industry, science, education, and the arts. It features images of modernization--airports, factories, mechanized farms--alongside views of Beijing, revolutionary sites like Zunyi, and scenes of China's rich cultural heritage, including folk traditions and works by Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, and He Xiangning. Bound in cream cloth with red Chinese lettering and the national emblem in blind on the front. Brown endpapers flecked with gold, white silk bookmark. Housed in the original publisher's cardboard slipcase.
