Item Overview
Description:
A Collection of Portmeirion 'The Botanic Garden' Ceramic Dinnerware and Serving Pieces, Circa 1972
A collection of Portmeirion 'The Botanic Garden' ceramic dinnerware and serving pieces. Each item is crafted from white ceramic and adorned with detailed botanical illustrations of individual plants, including Clematis, Convolvulus (Trailing Bindweed), and Rosa Canina (Dog Rose), accompanied by various insects such as butterflies, bees, and dragonflies. All illustrations are framed by a repeating green leaf border. The collection comprises a large round bowl, an oval serving dish, and two stacks of smaller plates/bowls of varying sizes. A clear backstamp identifies the manufacturer as Portmeirion, the collection as "The Botanic Garden" (inspired by botanical illustrations circa 1818), the designer as Susan Williams-Ellis, and indicates a production year of 1972. The backstamp also specifies "Made in England" and confirms the items are dishwasher, oven to table, microwave, and freezer safe.
Approximate measurements: Oval dish length 10 inches; Round plates diameter 8.5 inches.
The items generally appear to be in good, well-preserved condition with no obvious chips or cracks. Minor surface wear consistent with age and use may be present.
