A Pair of Vintage Javanese Wayang Golek Wood Rod Puppets - This pair of traditional Wayang Golek (wooden rod puppets) originates from Java, Indonesia. The figures are hand-carved and hand-painted, representing characters from the Javanese theatrical tradition. The puppet on the left features a light green face and a stylized avian-motif headdress, while the puppet on the right displays a cream face with a high-crested headdress. Both figures are outfitted in black velvet bodices with gold-toned metallic thread embroidery and cotton batik sarongs. The sarong on the right figure features the traditional parang pattern. Each puppet is mounted to a rectangular wooden display base. One wooden control rod is present on the right hand of the green-faced puppet. Height: 9.75 inches Width: 8 inches.
