American Federal Mahogany Tall Chest of Drawers - An American Federal mahogany tall chest of drawers, likely of Mid-Atlantic or New England origin, dating to the early 19th century. The case features a configuration of three short drawers over four graduated full-width drawers. The drawer fronts are faced with highly figured flame mahogany veneers, accented by light wood stringing and cross-banded borders. The top full-width drawer is centered with a large oval reserve of flame mahogany. The piece is flanked by two fluted pilasters and is raised on ring-turned and tapered legs ending in brass casters. The drawers are constructed with hand-cut dovetail joinery. Secondary woods appear to be white pine or poplar. Hardware includes two brass ring pulls with floral-motif backplates on the outer top drawers and swirled circular brass knobs on the remaining drawers. All long drawers and the center short drawer retain brass escutcheons. Dimensions: Not provided.
