American Classical Carved Mahogany Armchair with Needlepoint Seat - This mahogany armchair, dating from the Regency or William IV period circa 1830, features Greek Revival elements characteristic of the late Georgian and American Classical styles. The chair is constructed with a broad, curved tablet-form crest rail exhibiting flame mahogany veneers. Below the crest is a finely carved horizontal splat decorated with a central patera flanked by foliate scrolls. The out-swept arms terminate in tight scrolls and are supported by curved uprights. The chair stands on saber legs at both the front and rear, reinforcing its Neoclassical silhouette. The seat is upholstered in needlepoint tapestry featuring a central floral medallion within a circular wreath and bow-tied swags on a tan ground, finished with a braided gimp trim. 34 x 21 x 21 inches.
