19th Century Italian Florentine Carved Giltwood Wall Mirror - A 19th century Italian Florentine wall mirror featuring a rectangular inner border surrounded by an ornate hand-carved giltwood frame. The frame is executed in a Rococo-influenced style, decorated with pierced scrolling acanthus leaves and floral blossoms. It is surmounted by a large cresting centered by two pendant fruits framed by foliate scrolls. The frame is constructed of wood with a gilded finish over a white gesso ground and red bole. The rectangular mirror plate displays significant antique distress and oxidation. The reverse of the mirror shows early hand-carved construction and has been fitted with a modern paper dust cover and a wire hanger. The backing paper and an accompanying string tag are both marked with the dimensions. 39 x 20 inches.
