Madeira * In black, LF MAD on stampless folded cover of letter dated from Madeira (25.04.43) to Havre (13.05.43), transit in Falmouth (11.05.43) and Calais (12.05.43), obliterated on the reverse with the mark of the English packet agent in Madeira, struck in black “MADEIRA / AP27 / 1843” and in red “FALMOUTH / SHIP LETTER”. English rate for the sea route from Madeira of 8 pence, handwritten in sepia + English rate of 1s6d for the transit from England to France and rate paid at destination of 2F70c, both handwritten in sepia. Very fine and scarce.
