Lisbon * Letters abroad – Letter dated Lisbon (17.09.1801) to Newbury Port / Massachusetts / USA, transiting via New York (28.10.1801). Probably carried by hand on a merchant ship, it was presented at the post office in New York, where it was franked with 19p: 2p for sea rate (2p) and 17p for land rate for the 4th distance (150 to 300 miles). Rare item, very well preserved.
