Timor * Social and Political Deportees. Receipt No. 24 of the deportee José da Silva Gordinho, dated Dili (July 31, 1936) in the amount of 27.00 Patacas, referring to a subsidy for food and clothing, stamped with two fiscal stamps of 5 avos s/ 20 avos and one of 5 avos, PB228 and 176 and of 10 avos, crimson PB10. The monthly value of the subsidy was changed in April 1936, having been reduced from 50 patacas to 27 patacas. José da Silva Gordinho, an anarchist from Almada, born in 1899, was deported to Timor in 1927, having settled on Atauro Island, where he remained and maintained a marital relationship with a woman of Timorese origin. He was evacuated to Australia in December 1942, during the Japanese occupation. He disembarked in Lisbon in February 1946 and died there in 1948.
