Mozambique * 1914/18 – World War I. Censorship. Cover sent from Lourenço Marques (October 23, 1916) to Bern / Switzerland with a 50 réis brown stamp, type King Carlos I Mouchon, with the overprint “REPUBLICA” from the Mint, MF109, was censored in Lourenço Marques with a pink band with the legend in black “OPENED BY CENSORSHIP / LOURENÇO MARQUES” and postmarked with an oval stamp in red “PROVINCE OF MOZAMBIQUE / GENERAL HEADQUARTERS / INFORMATION DEPARTMENT”. Because the content was not written in a language permitted by the censorship, the Cover was returned to the sender, postmarked with a black stamp “RETOURNÉ À L'ENVOYEUR / DEVOLVIDO AO REMETTENTE” and with a handwritten note in red “ Returned to origin / because it is written in a language / prohibited by Decree No. 2595 of 25-8-916 ”.
