Mozambique * 1914/18 – World War I. German prisoners of war in Lourenço Marques * Correspondence retained by British military censorship. Cover sent rate-free from Lourenço Marques (20.11.16) to Amsterdam / Holland (27.08.), by prisoner no. 267, A. Dencker, from the 1st Prisoner of War Depot of Lourenço Marques, postmarked with a blue rate-free stamp “PROVINCIA DE MOÇAMBIQUE / SERVICE DE PRISONNIERS DE GUERRE / LOURENÇO MARQUES”. Censored in England with censor's band 5859, it was momentarily retained by the censors and postmarked with a rectangular black stamp “DETAINED BY THE / ….. MILITARY AUTHORITIES”. The only known copy from Mozambique retained by the censors.
