Mozambique Company * 1935 – Airmail * Inauguration of airmail in rectangular type. MF CA 11/22. Incomplete series (missing the three highest values) on a registered cover sent by airmail from Beira (01.11.35) to Sutton Coldfield / Birmingham / England (12.11.35) with transit through Salisbury (02.11.35). Beira – Salisbury connection by RANA and from Salisbury to England by Imperial Airways flight AN287, flight operated by Andromeda aircraft to Nairobi (03.11), by City of Jodhpur aircraft to Juba (04.11) + Horsa aircraft to Cairo (07.11). From Cairo to Alexandria by rail. By City Sylvanus aircraft from Alexandria (08.11) to Brindisi (09.11). From Brindisi to Paris (November 11th) by rail and then to London by air (November 12th). Interestingly, the SILVANUS aircraft was destroyed by fire after arriving in Brindisi on November 9th. The mail being transported was undamaged, as it had already been removed from the aircraft.
