Quelimane * 1913 – 4th Centenary of the Discovery of the Sea Route to India, with surcharge and overcharge on Macau stamps. Registered cover sent from Quelimane (July 22, 1914) to Ulm / Germany, with transit through London (August 24, 1914) and returned to Lisbon (September 9, 1914), with stamps of 1 cent s/ 2 avos, violet + 5 cents s/ 8 avos, blue + 7 ½ cents/ 12 avos, brown and 10 cents s/ 16 avos, brown-yellow, MF19, 21, 22 and 23, to pay the fifth rate of a letter to the UPU countries weighing between 60 and 75g (5+3+3+3+3 = 17 cents), the registration premium (5 cents) and excess rate of 1 ½ cents. Due to the outbreak of World War I and the German invasion of Belgium, mail delivery to Germany was likely interrupted, with letters not being delivered to their recipients and postmarked with a violet stamp that reads ”UNDELIVERABLE / LPS”.
