Ken Farrow GC ( Police Constable ) rescued a child who had fallen into the feeder, an aqueduct which supplies water from the river Taff to Cardiff, running under concrete slabs. Elizabeth Mortimer MM awarded the Military Medal one of 3 to be awarded at Biggin Hill during 1940 to WAAF's. For courage and coolness in carrying out her duties even after being told by an Officer to leave the area as it was too dangerous for her to carry on. Felicity Peake ( Hanbury) who as assistant section officer a young widow was a Military MBE in 1940 the first to a WAAF Officer during the War. Corporal Elspeth Green (Henderson)WAAF was also awarded the Military Medal for courage in the carrying out of her duties beyond the call. Mr. M. G.
