WW2 fighter ace Capt G Baldwin DSC signed Operation Dragoon Navy cover. HMS Hunter Operation Dragoon Invasion of Southern France Double Signed. 15Aug 90 Portsmouth. Operation Dragoon Invasion of Southern France 15th August 1944. An escort force of carries under the command of Rear Admiral T H Troubridge in HMS Royalist was provided for the invasion and it operated in two groups. HMS Hunter with its 807, 809, 879 and 899 Squadrons was part of the group under Rear Admiral C T Durgin USN. From dawn on the 15th until dark on the 26th they provided continuous air support during the daylight hours of the operation to secure the capture of St Raphael, St Tropez, Toulon and Marseilles. Personally Signed by Captain G. C. Baldwin CBE DSC RN Wing Leader, fourth Naval Air Wing at the time of the action, and Rear Admiral A D Torlesse CB DSO RN took Command of HMS Hunter after Operation Dragoon.
