Victor managed to score his first aerial victory before his brother and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class before him. During a fighter bomber attack (with 2nd squadron/Jagd-Geschwader 51) on a London harbour facility on October 7, 1940 Victor was shot down and captured. Until November 1946 he was a POW in the UK and in Canada. Adolf Josef Ferdinand Galland (19 March 1912 - 9 February 1996)[2] was a German Luftwaffe general and flying ace who served throughout the Second World War in Europe. He flew 705 combat missions and fought on the Western Front and in the Defence of the Reich.
