Group Captain James Nigel Watts Farmer served as Chief Flying Instructor with 302 (Polish) Squadron during the Battle of Britain, joining the unit in July 1940. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) in March 1941 and later served as a Flight Commander with 610 Squadron.
