During World War 11 a large number of RAF and Allied Aircrew who had been shot down were hidden by the Dutch Resistance in the Biesbosch until they could be taken over the River Maas and passed along the Comete Line Escape Route. At Drimmelen on the River Maas is a monument to the 374 Dutch people who lost their lives during these operations. Flown in 21 Squadron Devon WP973 from Glize Rijen ( Holland ) to RAF Northolt.
