HASP1cA Flown RAF Richthofen Cover Signed F. M. F. West VC Holder WW1 Great War pilot. 21 4 77 Wittmund. Rittmeister Cover depicts Manfred Freiherr Von Richthofen ( Red Baron ). Personally Signed by Air Commodore F. M. F. West VC, CBE, MC. Won his Victoria Cross as Captain with No 8 Squadron with the Royal Flying Corps in 1918 in France. Saw Richthofen Aircraft crash. Air Commodore F. M. F. West VC, was one of many who saw Richthofen crash. He was returning to his base at Vignacourt ( North of Amiens) in an Armstrong Whitworth FK8 having picked up a pilot of his squadron, who had forced landed near Corbie. They then witnessed the last stages of the air battle and saw a red Fokker DR1 go down and crash on the Morlaincourt Ridge. Later West landed about 2000 yards from the Wreckage and with difficulty walked to the wrecked triplane. He was greeted by the Australian soldiers who told him that the pilot was Baron Von Richthofen, and that he was dead.
