In his letter he wrote ''You may know that in October 1942 General Marl Clarke and a party of Staff officers were landed on the beach near Algiers from a Submarine for talks with the local Military Commanders ahead of the @@Totch Landings. They were held up on the beach due to bad Weather for Several days. When the Weather moderated I flew down to the rendezvous in a Catalina of 202 Sqn and picked them up. That was on the 24th October.
