HMS Mohawk with Cossack, Maori, and Zulu, returning from convoy duties in the North Sea to their base at Rosyth coincided with the German's First Air Raid on the UK. A JU88 swooped over Mohawk releasing two bombs which hit abreast of the bridge and torpedo tubes. Commander Jolly received terrible wounds but continued in command till Mohawk reached Rosyth. He later died in hospital at South Queens Ferry. Personally Signed by Cdr D G D Hall Wright 2nd Lt of HMS Mohawk at time of action. was hit by Torpedoes and sunk with the Loss of 41 Men.
