WW2 Tirpitz Raiders J Sayers DFC and M Colyer double signed 43rd Ann RAF 1987 cover. Flight Lieutenant J. L. Sayers, DFC, was part of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) crew that participated in the attack on the German battleship Tirpitz on November 12, 1944. He was a pilot in 617 Squadron, which, along with 9 Squadron, carried out the successful daylight raid using Lancaster bombers and Tallboy bombs. The attack resulted in the sinking of the Tirpitz in Tromso Fjord, Norway. M H Mac Colyer was Gunner on Pryor's crew. Cover was flown by Lancaster PA474 Numbered 29 of 150.
