40th Anniv Liberation of Colditz signed 2 inmates of Colditz H Ironside and M Wynn. 8 May 85 BFPS 1945 VE Day Special postmark. Special 40th Anniversary Of Liberation of Colditz cover. Cover depicts Colditz Castle. Colditz Castle was where the Germans hold troublesome and highly prized prisoners of the Allied Officers in WW2. Only 4 successful escapes were made, the first on 5th January 1942 by Lt Col Neave R E and Lt Luteyn Dutch Army, on 11 June 1942 by Sqn Ldr Padden, on the 9th January 1942 3 British and 3 Dutch Officers escaped but only Flt Lt Fowler and Lt Cdr van Doornick, Dutch Navy reach safety and on and on 15th October 1942 by Maj Littledate K R R C, Maj Reid RASC, Lt Cdr Stephens RNVR and Flt Lt Wardle RAF. Personally Signed by Lieut H C W Ironside RTR Captured 26th May 1940, Arrived Colditz 21st June 1943 and Lieut Micky Wynn ( Now Lord Newborough RNVR ) Captured 28th March 1942 St Nazaire, Arrived Colditz 13th January 1943 Left Colditz 2nd Jan 1945 Repatriated 10-01-45. He was repatriated to Britain on account of the injuries he had suffered at St Nazaire. He was awarded the DSC for his role in the raid as well as being mentioned in dispatches. Lieut Micky Wynn ( Now Lord Newborough RNVR ), DSC, participant in the St Nazaire raid, died on October 11 aged 81. He was born on April 24, 1917. As commander of MTB 74 during the St Nazaire raid of March 1942, Lord Newborough, then sub lieutenant Michael Wynn, RNVR, was charged with a crucial role in the operation Certified Copy No 15 of 50. 3 flown backstamp cachets and courier signed.
