Flt Lt ”Freddie” Ball (Frederick) was a notable RAF bomber pilot who flew with 49 Squadron, completing tours on both Hampdens and Wellingtons, later earning the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and serving in Special Duties with 161 Squadron, airlifting agents and VIPs, including future French Presidents, from occupied Europe before dying in 2007.
