Flt Lt John ”Jo” Oliver Lancaster DFC was a notable RAF bomber pilot in WW2, flying with 40 Squadron on Wellingtons, completing 54 operations including the first thousand-bomber raid to Cologne, and later becoming a pioneering test pilot who made the first emergency ejection seat use in 1949. He survived being a POW and had an extensive post-war career testing various aircraft before retiring in 1984, leaving a legacy as a true aviation hero.
