The RMS Queen Mary began her maiden voyage on May 27, 1936, sailing from Southampton to New York. Directed by Captain Duncan Cameron, the 80,700-ton vessel began its journey amidst huge crowds, despite a minor mishap where its stern grazed at Beardmore Bend.
