On 27th October 1938 he was flying a Blenheim L1182 ( the Cover Aircraft ) from No 104 ( B ) Squadron, Bassingbourne, when it developed engine trouble a common fault in the teething stages. Ordering his crew to write down everything he said, Folley put the Blenheim down in a field after both engines had stopped. The first pilot to crash land a Blenheim and live.
