WW2 Battle of Britain Gerald Saunders 65 sqn multiple signed 50th ann RAF cover RAFA2 The Skirmishing. Also signed by 5 other fighter aces inc Wolton 152 sqn, Wilf Sizer 213 sqn, John Keatings, L Martel, T Grey. Flight Lieutenant G.A.W.Saunders was with No 65 Squadron flying Spitfire's during the Battle of Britain. He assumed command of the Squadron after the death of Squadron Leader H.C.Sawyer on the August 2nd 1940 until A.L.Holland arrived to take command mid-way through August. Still serving with the squadron in 1940, Saunders shared in the destruction of a Hs126 on 24th May, probably destroyed a Me109 and damaged a Ju88 on the 26th and probably destroyed a Do17 on the 27th. Saunders destroyed Me109s on 7th and 9th July and shared a Do17 and damaged a Me110 on 26th August. He took command of the squadron on 30th October 1940 as an Acting Squadron Leader. He was awarded the DFC (gazetted 4th April 1941) and posted away in September 1941. Good condition Est.
