WW11 Bomber profile Signed by R Hammersley Wireless Operator/Air Gunner 57 Sqn. Personally Signed by Roland Hammersley was indeed a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner with No. 57 Squadron RAF. which was part of RAF Bomber Command. The squadron flew Wellington bombers during the early part of the war. and later transitioned to Lancaster bombers. As a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner. his duties would have involved operating the aircraft's wireless communications equipment and engaging in defensive air gunnery to protect the bomber from enemy fighters during their raids over enemy-occupied Europe.
