Antique Norwegian Amber Glasskavl with Mermaid Nipple - Picked off a Sutherland beach around 40 years ago, this large glass float originated in Norway. The glass float was used by fishermen to leep fishing lines and nets afloat.  Norway was the first country to produce and use glass floats, starting around 1840. They were invented by Norwegian merchant Christopher Faye in collaboration with the Hadeland Glassverk in 1842. Hand-blown with imperfections like bubbles, streaks, and a distinctive rough seal (often called a ”blob button” or ”mermaid nipple”).
