1890s Scottish Regulator Longcase Clock - A very elegant regulator longcase clock in Regency styling by David Crichton of Edinburgh, Goldsmith to the Royal & Ancient Club, St Andrews. A regulator longcase clock is a highly precise, weight-driven pendulum clock housed in a tall case, designed for maximum accuracy during the 18th and 19th centuries. Primarily used in observatories, railway stations, and clockmaker shops, they typically feature a specialized dial with a large minute hand, smaller subsidiary dials for hours and seconds, and often lack striking mechanisms. The temperature compensating pendulum with mercury-filled glass jar is suspended from a heavy bridge at the top of the movement, with beat adjustment on the crutch.
