The items are housed in their original pine box, which includes a caution label regarding proper storage and care of the wood.  Croquet’s exact inventor is unknown, but modern croquet likely originated in Ireland before being introduced to England in the 1850s, evolving from older French and Irish games like jeu de mail or crookey.
