Autogra[h of Boris Karloff (1887–1969) - Boris Karloff was widely recognized as one of the most foundational and enduring icons of horror cinema and the undisputed ”King of Horror” in the 1930s and 1940s. As a British actor who found fame in Hollywood, his impact transcended a single genre, influencing acting, voiceover work, children's media, and even the labour rights of performers. His 1931 breakthrough role as Frankenstein's monster—his 82nd film—established him as a cinematic icon. He brought a sympathetic yet chilling depth to the character, a portrayal that, according to Empire magazine in 2016, is the sixth-greatest horror movie character of all time. Beyond Frankenstein, he gave legendary performances in The Mummy (1932) and the Bride of Frankenstein (1935), bringing a ”creepy voice” and strong physical presence to various villainous roles. Late in his career, he achieved ”Christmas immortality” by narrating and providing the voice for the 1966 TV special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which won him a Grammy Award. Karloff was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in 1933, having organized for better working conditions following hazardous, long hours on set.
