Bidspirit auction | Two Pieces of Harefield Pottery
Two Pieces of Harefield Pottery - Before they founded Anta Pottery and then Tain Pottery - they founded Harefield pottery in London and trained Keith Brymer Jones (he of TV fame). Made in the 70s/80s. The first item is a cylindrical kitchen crock, featuring a slightly flared rim and a cream-colored glaze. The front is decorated with a hand-painted stylized wheat stalk motif in brown, with a matching brown band highlighting the rim. The second item is a small studio pottery jug with a waisted hourglass profile and a wide, vertically ribbed handle. It is constructed from speckled stoneware with a mottled salt-glaze appearance and decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue floral designs. The base is accented with horizontal blue lines and a decorative band of small, impressed chevron shapes. The base of the handle is marked with two circular impressed stamps, each containing an 8-pointed star motif. Crock height: 6.5 inches Jug height: 4 inches.
